The HERTEL 89323778 is a taper shank drill bit designed for heavy-duty drilling in metal, steel, and similar materials. It carries a 1-27/32 inch (1.8438 inch decimal) cutting diameter and mounts via a No. 5 Morse taper shank, making it compatible with large drill presses, lathes, and milling machines equipped with a matching taper socket. The 118-degree point angle is a standard general-purpose geometry that works across a wide range of ferrous and non-ferrous materials. The high-speed steel construction with an oxide finish provides adequate heat resistance and corrosion protection for normal shop and production environments. Machinists and tool-and-die professionals are the primary users of this size class.
This drill bit is suited for general-purpose drilling operations in production machining, job shops, and maintenance environments. The No. 5 Morse taper shank seats directly into spindles and tailstocks on lathes, radial arm drill presses, and floor-standing drill presses that accept 5MT tooling. With a flute length of 10-1/8 inches and an overall length of 17-1/8 inches, this bit handles deep-hole applications where a shorter jobber-length drill cannot reach. It is appropriate for single-pass or progressive drilling in mild steel, cast iron, aluminum, and similar materials at conventional cutting speeds.
Designed for use in machine spindles, lathe tailstocks, and drill press quills fitted with a No. 5 Morse taper socket. Suitable for general-purpose drilling in ferrous and non-ferrous metals.
Installation requires a spindle or tailstock with a No. 5 Morse taper socket. Ensure the machine is fully powered down and the spindle is locked before seating or removing the taper shank. Clean both the shank and the socket bore of chips and oil before seating to ensure proper taper engagement. A drift and drift slot should be used for removal — do not strike the bit directly.
