The HERTEL 89323190 is a taper shank drill bit designed for drilling large-diameter holes in metal, cast iron, and other ferrous materials. It is manufactured from high-speed steel with an oxide finish that provides light corrosion resistance and reduces friction during cutting. The bit measures 1.0938 inches (1-3/32 inches) in diameter, carries a 4MT (Morse Taper 4) shank for direct mounting in compatible taper-sleeve spindles and tailstocks, and features a standard 118-degree split-point geometry suited for general-purpose drilling. Machinists, tool-and-die workers, and maintenance technicians use this bit in drill presses, lathes, and radial arm drills equipped with a No. 4 Morse Taper socket.
This bit is sized for general-purpose production and maintenance drilling where a large-diameter hole is required in a single pass or as a finishing step after piloting. The 6.875-inch flute length provides adequate chip clearance when drilling deep holes, and the 12.5-inch overall length suits vertical and horizontal spindle machines with standard quill travel. Typical applications include drilling bolt holes, bores, and clearance holes in steel plate, structural steel, and machinery components in shop and field maintenance environments.
Designed for use in drill presses, lathes, and milling machines equipped with a No. 4 Morse Taper spindle or sleeve. A 4MT-to-chuck adapter or drift key will be required for machines that do not have a native No. 4 Morse Taper socket.
Installation is performed by machinists or maintenance technicians familiar with taper-shank tooling. Before mounting, clean the taper shank and the spindle socket thoroughly to remove chips, oil, and debris, as contamination prevents full seating and can cause the bit to pull out under load. Insert the shank firmly by hand and confirm full seating before applying power. Use a proper drift key and drift slot to remove the bit — never strike the spindle housing to dislodge a stuck taper.
