The HERTEL 8850565 is a TNGA-style ceramic turning insert engineered for precision external turning operations on CNC and manual lathes. Manufactured in an uncoated ceramic grade designated HT601CA, this insert is suited for high-speed finishing cuts on hardened steels, cast irons, and heat-resistant superalloys where ceramic tooling outperforms carbide. The insert features a 60-degree triangular shape with a neutral hand orientation, a 3/8-inch inscribed circle, and a 1/32-inch corner radius. Insert thickness is 3/16 inch and the insert length runs 0.63 inches. Holding is accomplished via clamp and pin, consistent with standard TNGA pocket toolholders.
This insert is intended for production and job-shop turning applications where surface finish, dimensional accuracy, and tool life at elevated cutting speeds are priorities. The negative rake geometry and zero-degree relief angle (clearance code N, tolerance code G) make it appropriate for rigid setups and continuous-cut finishing passes. Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist or tooling technician with the machine powered off, spindle locked, and all stored energy dissipated before accessing the toolholder. Seat the insert fully into the pocket and torque the clamp to the toolholder manufacturer specification using the appropriate Torx or hex key. Ceramic inserts are brittle compared to carbide — avoid impact loads, interrupted cuts beyond the grade rating, and contact with hard surfaces during handling. Verify correct insert orientation and overhang before resuming machine operation.
