The HERTEL 8850551 is a ceramic turning insert designed for precision metal cutting operations on CNC lathes and turning centers. Manufactured to CNGA431T00625 geometry with an HP610CA grade ceramic substrate, this insert features a Physical Vapor Deposition (PVD) TiN coating for improved wear resistance and edge retention at elevated cutting speeds. The 80-degree diamond shape (C-style) provides a strong, stable cutting geometry suited to finishing and semi-finishing passes. With a neutral hand orientation and a 1/64-inch corner radius, it delivers consistent surface finish on hard and difficult-to-machine materials. Licensed machinists and CNC operators working in aerospace, automotive, and general metalworking applications are the primary installers of this insert type.
This insert is suited for high-speed turning of hardened steels, cast iron, and superalloys where ceramic tooling outperforms carbide. The CNGA-style geometry with negative rake and N clearance code is typically applied in rigid, high-horsepower setups where vibration is minimized. The A chip breaker configuration supports controlled chip formation in semi-finish and finish turning. Holding is achieved via clamp and pin method, compatible with standard CNGA insert toolholders. Package quantity is 1 insert per package, with a minimum order quantity of 10 units.
Designed as a direct-fit replacement insert for standard CNGA toolholders accepting CNGA431 geometry inserts with clamp and pin retention. Verify toolholder pocket dimensions and insert style code before installation.
Installation of turning inserts should be performed by a qualified machinist or CNC tooling technician with the machine fully powered down and in a locked-out state. Use the correct torque wrench and clamp hardware specified by the toolholder manufacturer to seat the insert securely without cracking the ceramic substrate. Ceramic inserts are brittle and should not be subjected to interrupted cuts, heavy vibration, or impact loading unless the grade is specifically rated for such conditions. Inspect the insert pocket for damage or debris before seating a new insert.
