The HERTEL 85704047 is a jobber-length twist drill bit designed for general-purpose drilling in metal, wood, and plastic. Built from high speed steel (HSS) with a bright, uncoated finish, this bit is suited for moderate-speed applications where heat buildup is manageable. It is sized to wire gauge number 27, which corresponds to a decimal diameter of 0.1440 inches. The 118-degree standard point angle makes it appropriate for a wide range of common shop and field drilling tasks. Overall length is 3 inches, with a 1-7/8-inch flute length. Machinists, maintenance technicians, and general tradespeople will find this bit fits standard drill chucks and hand-held power tools with no modification.
This bit is a fit for general-purpose production drilling, maintenance-and-repair operations, and light fabrication work. The 0.1440-inch straight-cylindrical shank seats directly in standard three-jaw drill chucks. The spiral flute design with a regular helix and tapered web configuration promotes chip evacuation and keeps the cutting edge engaged cleanly through the workpiece. It is sold individually but must be ordered in multiples of 12 units per the minimum order quantity.
Designed as a general-purpose jobber-length drill bit compatible with any standard three-jaw drill chuck accepting a 0.1440-inch straight-cylindrical shank, including bench drill presses, hand-held power drills, and drill motors commonly used in maintenance and fabrication settings.
Install and remove drill bits only with the drill unplugged or the power source locked out and tagged per site lockout-tagout procedures. Secure the shank fully in the chuck and verify concentricity before drilling. Use appropriate cutting fluid or lubricant when drilling ferrous metals to extend bit life and reduce heat. Discard bits that show visible chipping, cracking, or loss of cutting edge geometry, as damaged HSS bits can grab and break unexpectedly.
