The HERTEL 84581222 is a No. 48 wire gauge jobber-length drill bit ground from high speed steel and finished with an oxide coating. It cuts a 0.0760-inch diameter hole using a 135-degree split point that reduces walking on entry and lowers thrust compared to a conventional 118-degree geometry. The two-flute spiral design with a tapered web and web-thinned point clears chips efficiently in through-hole and blind-hole applications. At 2 inches overall length with a 1-inch flute length, this is a compact, heavy-duty bit suited to production drilling in metal fabrication shops, maintenance environments, and machine shops. It is installed by machinists, tool-and-die workers, and maintenance mechanics.
This bit is rated for holemaking in ferrous and non-ferrous metals where a wire gauge hole size is required. The straight-cylindrical shank at 0.0760 inches accepts standard three-jaw drill chucks on benchtop drill presses, hand drills, and CNC drilling stations. The oxide finish provides a modest level of surface hardness and corrosion resistance during storage and cutting. It conforms to NAS specification and carries UNSPSC code 23241634, making it suitable for procurement systems that require commodity classification. Typical applications include pilot holes, clearance holes, and precision through-holes in sheet metal and light structural stock.
Designed as a standard jobber-length drill bit for use in any three-jaw drill chuck accepting a 0.0760-inch straight-cylindrical shank, including benchtop drill presses, portable hand drills, and CNC drilling equipment.
Secure the shank fully in a properly tightened three-jaw chuck before operation. Power down or unplug the drilling machine before changing bits. Use appropriate cutting fluid for ferrous metals to extend tool life and maintain hole quality. Wear eye protection and follow applicable shop safety standards when operating drilling equipment.
