The HERTEL 84580968 is a No. 22 wire gauge jobber-length drill bit designed for general-purpose holemaking in metal, wood, and composite materials. Manufactured from high speed steel with an oxide coating for added surface hardness and corrosion resistance, this bit features a 135-degree split point that reduces walking and requires no center-punch on most surfaces. With an overall length of 3.125 inches and a 2-inch flute length, it fits standard drill chucks and is sized for production and maintenance drilling tasks. The straight-cylindrical shank seats securely in keyed or keyless chucks. This bit carries a heavy-duty grade designation and conforms to NAS specification standards.
This bit is suited for use in machine shop environments, maintenance and repair operations, and light manufacturing. The No. 22 wire gauge diameter of 0.1570 inches is commonly used for tap-drill and clearance-hole applications in ferrous and non-ferrous metals. The regular spiral with tapered web and web-thinned geometry promotes efficient chip evacuation during through-hole drilling. It is a standard replacement for worn or broken jobber bits in the 0.1500 to 0.2000 inch size range and is appropriate for use in drill presses, CNC machining centers, and handheld power drills.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement jobber drill bit in the No. 22 wire gauge size, compatible with any standard keyed or keyless drill chuck accepting a 0.1570-inch straight-cylindrical shank.
Installation and use of this drill bit should be performed by machinists, maintenance technicians, or qualified trade professionals familiar with rotating cutting tools. Ensure the workpiece is properly secured before drilling and that the drill chuck is tightened to the appropriate setting for the shank diameter. Coolant-through is not supported on this bit; use external cutting fluid on hard metals to extend tool life. Inspect the cutting edge before each use and replace immediately if chipping or significant wear is observed.
