The HERTEL 84577964 is a jobber-length drill bit sized to Letter L (0.2900 inches decimal equivalent), designed for general-purpose drilling in metal, wood, and plastic. Built from high-speed steel with a bright uncoated finish, it features a standard 118-degree split point and a tapered, web-thinned web configuration that reduces walking on entry and lowers thrust requirements at the drill press or hand drill. The straight cylindrical shank seats directly into standard three-jaw chucks. With an overall length of 4.25 inches and a flute length of 2.9375 inches, this is a right-hand cut, two-flute spiral bit suited for general shop and field use by machinists, maintenance techs, and fabricators.
This bit covers applications where a 0.2900-inch hole is required, falling within the 0.2500 to 0.3000 inch drill bit size range. It is a practical choice for light to medium material removal in both production and maintenance environments. The regular spiral and two-flute geometry provide efficient chip evacuation in through-hole and blind-hole drilling operations. No coolant-through capability is present, so it is best suited to standard speed-and-feed drilling without internal coolant delivery.
Designed as a general-purpose jobber-length drill bit compatible with any drill press, CNC drill, or hand drill equipped with a standard three-jaw chuck sized to accept a 0.2900-inch straight cylindrical shank.
Installation and use should be performed by machinists, maintenance technicians, or fabricators familiar with proper speed-and-feed selection for the workpiece material. Secure the shank fully in the chuck and verify concentricity before drilling. Wear appropriate eye protection and secure the workpiece to prevent rotation. No coolant-through path is present; apply cutting fluid externally when drilling ferrous materials at higher feed rates to manage heat buildup.
