The HERTEL 84512003 is a single-end roughing end mill designed for aggressive material removal in milling applications. Built from M42 cobalt high-speed steel with a bright, uncoated finish, it runs a 0.25-inch mill diameter with a 1.25-inch length of cut and a 3.125-inch overall length. The 3/8-inch shank diameter provides solid tool holding in standard end mill holders. Four flutes with a right-hand cutting and right-hand flute direction deliver efficient chip evacuation during roughing passes. Licensed machinists and tool-and-die professionals use this style of end mill for hogging material before a finishing pass.
This end mill suits ferrous and non-ferrous stock removal in manual mills, CNC machining centers, and knee mills. The M42 cobalt grade offers improved heat resistance over standard M2 HSS, making it a practical choice for harder workpiece materials or interrupted cuts where carbide is not required. It is not center-cutting, so it is not intended for plunge entry without a pre-drilled hole or ramping strategy.
Designed as an OEM-style roughing end mill for use in standard end mill holders, collet chucks, and Weldon-style holders accepting a 3/8-inch shank diameter.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist following shop safety procedures. Ensure the machine spindle is fully stopped and locked out before seating or removing the tool. Verify holder runout before cutting and confirm the shank is fully engaged to the minimum depth recommended by the holder manufacturer. Because this tool is not center-cutting, avoid direct plunge entry into solid material.
