The HERTEL 84511922 is a single-end roughing end mill designed for aggressive material removal in milling applications. Built from M42 cobalt high-speed steel and coated with titanium carbonitride (TiCN), it is engineered to handle tough ferrous and non-ferrous materials with reduced heat buildup and extended tool life. The cutter measures 1.25 inches in diameter, features 6 fine-pitch flutes, and provides a 4-inch length of cut with a 6.5-inch overall length. A right-hand cutting and right-hand flute direction makes this a standard configuration for conventional milling setups. Machinists and tool-and-die professionals select this tool for roughing passes where chip evacuation and edge durability are the primary requirements.
This roughing end mill is suited for manual mills, CNC machining centers, and knee mills performing heavy stock removal operations. The fine-pitch, 6-flute geometry generates smaller chips and reduces chatter on rigid setups, making it a practical choice for hogging passes on steel, alloy steel, and similar materials. The 1.25-inch shank diameter matches the cutter diameter for direct collet or end mill holder mounting without the need for a reducing adapter. It is a non-centercutting tool, meaning plunge cuts are not supported — this cutter is intended for peripheral and slot roughing entries made via ramping or pre-drilled entry points.
Designed as a direct-mount roughing end mill for standard 1.25-inch end mill holders, collet chucks, or milling arbors used on manual and CNC vertical milling machines.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist following shop safety procedures. Power down and lock out the spindle before installing or removing the cutter. Seat the shank fully into the holder to the recommended engagement depth per the tool holder manufacturer's guidelines before torquing the drawbar or set screw. Confirm runout with a dial indicator after mounting, and verify the machine spindle direction matches the right-hand cutting orientation of this tool before engaging the workpiece.
