The HERTEL 84511773 is a single-end roughing end mill designed for aggressive material removal in milling operations. Built from M42 cobalt high-speed steel with a Titanium Nitride (TiN) coating, it delivers elevated heat and wear resistance compared to standard HSS tooling. The 1/2-inch diameter, 3-flute coarse-pitch geometry breaks chips efficiently and reduces cutting forces, making it a reliable choice for roughing passes on ferrous and non-ferrous metals. At 3 inches overall length with a 1-inch length of cut, it fits a wide range of vertical and horizontal milling setups. Licensed machinists and tool-and-die professionals are the primary users.
This end mill is suited for roughing operations in job shops, production machining environments, and maintenance-and-repair machining. The coarse pitch flute design clears chips quickly, which reduces heat buildup during heavier depths of cut. The TiN coating extends tool life in steel, alloy steel, and cast iron applications. The 1/2-inch shank diameter matches standard ER collet chucks, end mill holders, and Weldon-style holders found on most knee mills and CNC machining centers. It is a right-hand cut, right-hand helix configuration, which is the standard orientation for conventional and climb milling on most machines.
Designed as an OEM-style roughing end mill for use in standard 1/2-inch end mill holders, ER collet systems, and Weldon-style tool holders on knee mills and CNC vertical machining centers.
Installation is performed by machinists or CNC operators. Ensure the machine spindle is fully stopped and the machine is in a safe, locked-out state before changing tooling. Seat the shank fully into the holder to the recommended minimum engagement depth and torque the set screw or collet nut per the holder manufacturer specifications. Verify runout with a dial indicator before beginning a cut, as excessive runout accelerates tool wear and reduces surface finish quality.
