The HERTEL 84214014 is a single-end roughing end mill engineered for aggressive material removal in ferrous and non-ferrous machining applications. Built from M42 cobalt high-speed steel and finished with a Titanium Nitride (TiN) coating, this tool delivers improved heat resistance and extended cutting life compared to standard HSS tooling. It features an 8-flute, fine-pitch configuration that produces a smoother workpiece finish while maintaining high chip load capacity. With a 2-inch cutting diameter, 3-inch length of cut, and 6.75-inch overall length, this end mill is well suited to heavy roughing passes on horizontal and vertical milling machines. It is installed by machinists and toolroom professionals in production and job-shop environments.
This end mill is appropriate for roughing operations on steel, stainless, and other tough alloys where tool longevity and material removal rate are the primary concerns. The TiN coating reduces friction at the cutting edge and helps resist built-up edge. The fine-pitch, 8-flute geometry is particularly effective in rigid setups where vibration is controlled and full-depth passes are practical. It is a single-end tool, so once the cutting end is worn it is not reversible, making proper speeds-and-feeds discipline essential to maximizing tool life. No center-cutting capability means it is not suitable for direct plunge operations.
Designed as an OEM-style roughing end mill for use in standard milling machine spindles and tool holders accepting a 2-inch straight shank.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist following safe tooling practices. Ensure the milling machine spindle is fully powered down and locked out before mounting or removing the tool. Use a properly sized collet chuck or end mill holder rated for the 2-inch shank diameter and verify runout with a dial indicator before beginning cuts. Confirm that spindle speed and feed rate are calculated for the specific workpiece material before engaging the cut.
