The HERTEL 84213990 is a single-end roughing end mill designed for aggressive material removal in milling operations. Built from M42 cobalt high-speed steel with a Titanium Nitride (TiN) coating, it delivers hardness and heat resistance suited for cutting ferrous and non-ferrous metals. The 1-1/4 inch diameter cutter features 6 fine-pitch flutes with a right-hand cutting and right-hand flute direction. With a 3-inch length of cut and 5.5-inch overall length, this tool fits standard CNC machining centers and manual knee mills where heavy stock removal is the priority. Machinists and toolroom professionals install this tool in collet chucks or side-lock holders matched to its 1-1/4 inch straight shank.
This roughing end mill is suited for production and toolroom milling operations where faster material removal rates are needed before a finish pass. The fine-pitch 6-flute geometry reduces chip load per tooth while increasing feed rates on steel, alloy steel, stainless, and similar materials. It is not center-cutting, so plunge entries require a pre-drilled start hole or ramp entry. It is not extended-reach and does not feature a variable helix, making it a straightforward drop-in for standard side milling, shoulder milling, and slot roughing operations in vertical or horizontal machining setups.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement or direct toolroom selection for standard 1-1/4 inch straight-shank milling tool holders used in vertical and horizontal milling machines and CNC machining centers.
Installation is performed by qualified machinists or toolroom technicians. Power down and lock out the spindle drive before inserting or removing the tool from the holder. Secure the shank fully within the collet or side-lock holder to the minimum engagement depth recommended by the toolholder manufacturer. Confirm cutting direction matches spindle rotation before initiating a cut — this tool is right-hand cut only.
