The HERTEL 84213867 is a single-end cobalt roughing end mill designed for aggressive material removal in milling operations. Built from M42 cobalt high-speed steel, this 4-flute tool delivers the heat and wear resistance needed for cutting ferrous metals, stainless steel, and other tough workpiece materials. The 3/8 inch diameter with a 1.5 inch length of cut and 3.25 inch overall length make it well suited for standard depth roughing passes. The bright, uncoated finish provides a slick surface that reduces built-up edge in certain materials. Right-hand cutting and right-hand flute direction are standard on this geometry. Machinists and tool-and-die professionals rely on this style of end mill for hogging out stock before finish passes.
This roughing end mill is used in vertical machining centers, manual knee mills, and CNC milling operations where rapid stock removal is the priority. It is a single-end tool, meaning the cutting geometry is on one end only. The 3/8 inch shank diameter matches standard collets and end mill holders used across most shop environments. Non-centercutting design means it is intended for peripheral and side milling rather than direct plunge cutting. Typical applications include slotting, profiling, and roughing pockets in ferrous and non-ferrous metals.
Designed as an OEM-style roughing end mill for use in standard 3/8 inch collets and end mill holders on vertical knee mills and CNC machining centers.
Installation is performed by qualified machinists following standard toolholding procedures. Secure the shank fully within the collet or holder to the recommended engagement depth before tightening. Power down and lock out the spindle before changing tooling. Non-centercutting design requires a pre-drilled or pre-milled entry point when working in enclosed pockets — do not plunge directly into solid material.
