The HERTEL 84024017 is a cobalt threaded shank drill bit designed for drilling into high-tensile strength materials where standard high-speed steel bits fall short. Built to NAS 965 specification, this bit features a 135-degree split point that reduces walking and cutting pressure at entry. The oxide coating provides added surface hardness and corrosion resistance. At 5/32 inch (0.1562 inch decimal) diameter with a 2-1/8 inch overall length, it is sized for precision drilling in tight-clearance applications. The 1/4-28 threaded shank allows secure, repeatable mounting in compatible threaded-shank holders used in production and aerospace environments.
This bit is suited for metalworking applications involving high-tensile alloys, stainless steel, and other hard materials that cause rapid wear in standard tooling. The long-series geometry and spiral flute design support consistent chip evacuation during deep hole operations. It is used by machinists, aerospace maintenance technicians, and industrial fabricators working in production or MRO settings. The right-hand cutting direction and regular spiral flute are standard for most vertical and horizontal drilling setups.
Designed for use with threaded-shank drill holders accepting a 1/4-28 thread size, commonly used in production drilling, aerospace MRO, and precision metalworking fixtures.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist or maintenance technician familiar with threaded-shank tooling systems. Verify the holder thread is clean and undamaged before seating the bit to ensure full torque transfer and concentricity. Always power down and lock out the spindle before changing tooling. Do not exceed the recommended surface footage for cobalt tooling in the material being drilled, and use appropriate cutting fluid to extend tool life when drilling hard alloys.
