The HERTEL 83246470 is a straight-flute drill bit engineered for precision drilling in hard and exotic metals. Built from solid carbide at material grade C2, it carries a 140-degree notched point with web thinning for reduced thrust and cleaner entry. The bit measures 0.1610 inches in diameter, corresponding to wire gauge size 20, with a shank diameter of 0.1610 inches. A bright, uncoated finish keeps the carbide sharp and ready for dry or flood-coolant applications. Two right-hand flutes evacuate chips efficiently on short-run and production drilling operations. Licensed machinists, tool-and-die technicians, and precision metalworking shops are the primary installers.
This bit is rated for primary and secondary use on chrome alloy, heat-treated alloy, nickel alloy, stainless steel, carbon steel, and titanium alloy workpieces. It is well suited to aerospace, automotive, and industrial manufacturing environments where tight hole tolerances are required. The diameter tolerance of +0.0000 to -0.0005 inches supports close-fit fastener holes and precision bore work. Coolant-through capability is not included, so adequate surface or flood cooling should be planned when drilling deep holes or continuous production runs in heat-sensitive alloys.
Designed for use in standard drill chucks and CNC machining centers accepting a 0.1610-inch straight shank; suited for drilling chrome alloy, heat-treated alloy, nickel alloy, stainless steel, steel, and titanium alloy workpieces.
This bit is intended for use by qualified machinists and CNC operators familiar with carbide tooling. Secure the shank fully in a precision collet or keyless chuck before operation and verify spindle runout meets the tolerance requirements of the application. Carbide is brittle and susceptible to breakage under side-loading or interrupted cuts; avoid lateral flex during drilling. Apply appropriate cutting fluid or flood coolant when drilling deep holes or working with heat-sensitive nickel and titanium alloys.
