The HERTEL 83238733 is a screw machine length drill bit designed for high-speed steel cutting in tight-clearance and production drilling applications. Built to NAS 907 specification, this heavy-duty bit carries a Letter D diameter of 0.2460 inches and features a 135-degree split point that reduces walking and cutting torque on entry. The oxide coating provides moderate lubricity and corrosion resistance during use. At 2.5 inches overall length, this stub-style bit delivers rigidity that minimizes deflection in short-hole and gang-drilling setups. Spiral fluting with a web-thinned, parallel-web configuration promotes chip evacuation in ferrous and non-ferrous materials alike.
Screw machine length drill bits are used wherever stub-length rigidity matters: CNC machining centers, drill presses, turret lathes, and manual production work. The straight cylindrical shank seats directly into standard drill chucks and collet holders without adapters. This bit is appropriate for machinists, toolroom technicians, and maintenance mechanics drilling steel, cast iron, aluminum, and similar materials in light industrial and production environments. Right-hand cutting direction is standard for conventional spindle rotation.
Designed as a direct-fit replacement or production spare for any application requiring a Letter D, 0.2460-inch straight-cylindrical shank screw machine drill bit conforming to NAS 907 specification.
Install in a standard drill chuck or collet holder rated for the 0.2460-inch shank diameter, and verify runout before production use. Ensure the drilling machine is fully powered down and the spindle is locked before changing bits. For production drilling, confirm the correct spindle speed and feed rate for the workpiece material — do not exceed the cutting tool manufacturer's recommended parameters. Inspect the cutting edges and point geometry for wear or chipping before each use.
