The HERTEL 8000182 is a carbide shim designed for indexable external turning toolholders. Shims seat beneath the cutting insert to set correct cutting edge height and protect the toolholder pocket from wear and damage. This shim uses the SKDP style and is sized for a 3/8 inch inscribed circle diamond insert. Rake is negative with a neutral cutting direction. Thickness is 0.125 inches. At 0.01 pounds, it is a precision-ground component intended for production turning setups where consistent insert seating is critical to tool life and surface finish.
This shim is suited for external turning applications in CNC lathe and manual lathe environments. It is used by machinists and toolroom technicians who are running indexable insert toolholders in steel, stainless, cast iron, and similar materials. The SKDP shim style is specific to toolholders that accept diamond-shaped inserts with negative rake geometry. Proper shim selection ensures the insert is supported evenly across the pocket floor, reducing micro-chipping and extending edge life.
Confirmed compatible with toolholder A16RPTFNR11. Designed for SKDP-style indexable toolholders accepting diamond inserts with a 3/8 inch inscribed circle in external turning configurations.
Installation is performed by a machinist or toolroom technician during insert indexing or toolholder setup. Power down and de-energize the machine before accessing the toolholder pocket. Use the appropriate torx or hex key specified by the toolholder manufacturer to remove the clamp or pin before seating the shim. Inspect the pocket floor for debris or damage before placing the shim to ensure flat, full contact.
