The HERTEL 79892196 is a solid carbide jobber-length drill bit in wire gauge size No. 23, with a decimal diameter of 0.1540 inches. It features a standard 118-degree split point with web thinning for easier starting and reduced thrust. The bright (uncoated) finish makes it well suited for use in a wide range of materials where a specialized coating is not required. At 2.5 inches overall length with a 1.375-inch spiral flute, this bit delivers the reach and chip evacuation needed for precision drilling in metalworking and light fabrication environments. It is installed and used by machinists, tool-and-die techs, and maintenance professionals.
This bit is designed for use in CNC machining centers, drill presses, and handheld power tools with a straight-cylinder chuck. The right-hand cut and regular spiral make it appropriate for general-purpose through-hole and blind-hole drilling in ferrous and non-ferrous metals, plastics, and composites. The solid carbide construction at material grade C2 provides hardness and rigidity that outperforms high-speed steel in high-cycle or higher-speed applications. Coolant-through capability is not available on this bit, so flood or mist coolant applied externally is the standard approach when drilling heat-sensitive materials.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement or standard tooling option for any drill press, machining center, or handheld power tool equipped with a straight-cylinder chuck capable of holding a 0.1540-inch shank diameter.
Always secure the workpiece and ensure the chuck is tightened fully before starting the spindle. Power down the machine and lock out the energy source before changing drill bits. Solid carbide bits are brittle compared to high-speed steel — avoid side loading or flex during entry. Follow applicable shop safety standards and machine manufacturer guidelines for spindle speed and feed rate selection when working with carbide tooling.
