The HERTEL 79890968 is a solid carbide chucking reamer designed for precision hole finishing in tight-tolerance machining applications. Built to wire gauge size 64, this reamer produces a finished bore diameter of 0.0360 inches with a reamer diameter tolerance of 0.0000 to 0.0002 inches. The four-flute straight configuration provides smooth, consistent cutting action on through-holes and shallow blind holes. At just 1.5 inches overall length with a 0.25-inch flute length, it is optimized for short, controlled reaming passes in small-diameter work. Solid carbide construction delivers the rigidity and edge retention needed for accurate finishing in hardened materials, cast iron, aluminum, and similar workpiece materials.
This chucking reamer is suited for precision machining operations in toolrooms, job shops, CNC machining centers, and manual drill press or mill setups. Its straight cylindrical shank seats directly in drill chucks and collet holders without modification. The right-hand cutting direction and bright uncoated finish make it a straightforward replacement tool for small wire-gauge hole reaming where tight bore tolerances are required. Typical applications include instrument components, small fastener clearance holes, and precision fixture work where wire gauge 64 holes must meet close-tolerance finish requirements.
Designed as a standard wire gauge chucking reamer for use in drill chucks, ER collet holders, and similar straight-shank toolholding systems where a size 64 wire gauge reamer is specified.
Installation and use should be performed by a qualified machinist or toolroom technician. Ensure the machine spindle is fully stopped and locked out before mounting or changing tooling. Seat the straight cylindrical shank fully in the chuck or collet and verify runout before cutting. Carbide tooling is brittle and should never be used for interrupted cuts or forced feeds beyond the recommended parameters for the workpiece material.
