The HERTEL 77429033 is a reduced shank drill bit designed for drilling through low and medium tensile strength materials in demanding trade and industrial applications. The bit features a 1.25-inch cutting diameter paired with a 0.5-inch Weldon flat shank, allowing it to fit standard half-inch drill chucks and holders while spinning a larger bore. Built from high-speed steel with an oxide finish, it delivers solid wear resistance for production drilling in metal fabrication, mechanical contracting, and general shop use. The 118-degree standard point angle suits flat-bottom entry on common ferrous and non-ferrous materials. Right-hand spiral flutes efficiently evacuate chips throughout the full 3-inch flute length.
This drill bit is suited for stationary drill press work, magnetic base drilling rigs, and heavy-duty portable drilling setups where a reduced shank is needed to run a large-diameter bit in a standard half-inch capacity chuck or holder. Typical applications include structural steel work, HVAC sheet metal fabrication, plumbing rough-in through metal framing, and mechanical equipment installation. No coolant-through capability is present, so external lubrication or cutting fluid is recommended when drilling ferrous stock to extend tool life and maintain hole quality.
Designed for use in drill presses, magnetic base drills, and portable drilling equipment fitted with half-inch Weldon-style tool holders. Intended for low and medium tensile strength ferrous and non-ferrous workpiece materials.
Installation and use should be performed by qualified machinists, millwrights, or licensed tradespeople familiar with rotary cutting tools. Secure the Weldon flat shank firmly in the set-screw holder before operation to prevent pullout under load. Always power down and de-energize the drill or press before changing bits or adjusting the workpiece. Eye protection and appropriate chip guards are required per standard shop safety practice.
