The HERTEL 77428746 is a reduced shank twist drill bit designed for drilling into low and medium tensile strength materials including mild steel, aluminum, plastics, and similar workpieces. The bit features a 3/4 inch cutting diameter paired with a 1/2 inch Weldon flat shank, allowing it to seat securely in standard chucks and holders without slipping under torque. The 118-degree standard point angle provides reliable center-starting performance on flat and slightly curved surfaces. An oxide finish helps reduce friction and extend service life in general-purpose drilling applications. This bit is well suited for machinists, maintenance technicians, pipefitters, and fabricators working on production or jobsite drilling tasks.
This drill bit is intended for use in drill presses, milling machines, and hand-held power drills equipped with a 1/2 inch chuck or a Weldon-style tool holder. It is suited for repetitive drilling in low to medium tensile strength ferrous and non-ferrous materials in light manufacturing, HVAC fabrication, plumbing rough-in, and general metal fabrication environments. The 3-inch flute length supports chip evacuation at moderate drilling depths. With a 6-inch overall length, it provides adequate reach for most standard bench and column drill press setups.
Designed for use with 1/2 inch Weldon-style tool holders and standard 1/2 inch drill chucks. Suitable for drilling low and medium tensile strength materials including mild steel, aluminum, and similar workpieces.
Install this bit in a properly rated drill press, milling machine, or power drill before energizing the tool. Ensure the Weldon flat is fully seated against the set screw in the holder and tighten the set screw securely to prevent slippage under load. Operate at speeds appropriate for the workpiece material and bit diameter - consult a standard speeds-and-feeds reference for HSS tooling. No coolant is required for this bit, but light cutting fluid is acceptable and may extend service life when drilling ferrous materials.
