The HERTEL 77428688 is a reduced shank drill bit designed for drilling into low and medium tensile strength materials. The bit features a 21/32 inch (0.6562 inch decimal) cutting diameter paired with a 1/2 inch Weldon flat shank, allowing it to seat securely in compatible chucks without slipping under torque. The 118-degree standard point angle delivers consistent entry geometry on steel, aluminum, and similar workpiece materials. At 6 inches overall length with a 3 inch flute length, this bit suits general-purpose production and maintenance drilling tasks. Finished with an oxide coating for basic corrosion resistance, it is built from high-speed steel for durability across repeated use cycles.
This reduced shank drill bit is suited for metalworking applications in industrial, maintenance, and machine shop environments. The Weldon flat shank with three flats is commonly used in milling machine spindles, drill presses, and portable drilling equipment where set-screw retention is required. Right-hand cut spiral flutes with a regular helix are appropriate for through-hole and blind-hole drilling in ferrous and non-ferrous metals with low to medium tensile strength. Coolant-through capability is not supported on this bit.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement or direct-use drill bit for drilling equipment accepting a 1/2 inch Weldon flat shank, including drill presses and milling machines configured for set-screw chuck retention.
Installation and use should be performed by qualified machinists or trade professionals familiar with drill press and milling machine operation. Ensure the machine spindle is fully powered down and locked out before seating or removing the bit. Verify set screws engage all three Weldon flats fully before operation to prevent shank rotation under load. Follow applicable workplace safety standards and machine manufacturer guidelines for speeds and feeds when drilling into metallic workpieces.
