The HERTEL 74149089 is a screw machine length drill bit designed for high-performance drilling in demanding industrial and machining applications. Built from solid carbide with a bright/uncoated finish, this bit offers excellent hardness and wear resistance when cutting through tough workpiece materials. The 135-degree split point reduces walking and allows drilling without a center punch in many setups. At 0.625 inches in diameter with an overall length of 4.25 inches and a flute length of 2.75 inches, it fits standard screw machine and CNC drilling operations. Machinists, tool-and-die makers, and production drill press operators are the primary users.
This drill bit is suited for short-hole drilling applications where rigidity and precision are required. Its slow spiral flute geometry and web-thinned, parallel web configuration make it well matched for hard and difficult-to-machine materials including cast iron, nickel alloy, stainless steel, titanium alloy, and tool steel. The straight-cylindrical shank seats reliably in standard drill chucks and collet holders commonly found on CNC machining centers, lathes, and drill presses in both job shop and production environments.
Designed for use in standard drill chucks and collet systems accepting a straight-cylindrical shank. Intended for drilling cast iron, nickel alloy, stainless steel, titanium alloy, and tool steel as specified by the manufacturer.
Installation and use of solid carbide drill bits should be performed by qualified machinists familiar with speeds, feeds, and runout requirements for carbide tooling. Secure the shank fully in the chuck or collet and verify minimal runout before engaging the workpiece. Solid carbide is brittle compared to high-speed steel - avoid side loading, interrupted cuts without proper setup, or dropping the bit on hard surfaces. Always power down and lock out the machine before changing tooling.
