The HERTEL 74148743 is a screw machine length drill bit ground from solid carbide and designed for demanding material removal in hard-to-drill workpiece materials. At 2.00 mm in diameter (0.0787 inches), it features a 135-degree split point that reduces walking on entry and lowers thrust requirements at the spindle. The slow spiral flute geometry is optimized for chip evacuation in tough, stringy, or abrasive materials. With an overall length of 1.75 inches and a straight cylindrical shank, this bit is sized for use in CNC machining centers, drill presses, and bench-top production setups where short, rigid tooling is required. It is sold individually.
This bit is specified for production drilling and precision hole-making applications in cast iron, nickel alloy, stainless steel, titanium alloy, and tool steel. The screw machine length body provides added rigidity compared to jobber-length bits, making it well suited for tight-tolerance work in machining and fabrication environments. The bright uncoated finish keeps the carbide substrate exposed, which is appropriate for applications where a specific coating would react with the workpiece material or where regrinding is anticipated.
Designed for use in standard drill chucks and collet systems accepting straight cylindrical shanks in the 0.0000 to 0.1000 inch diameter range. Part of the HSSC135-SS series, intended for drilling cast iron, nickel alloy, stainless steel, titanium alloy, and tool steel workpieces.
This bit is installed by a machinist or tooling technician into a drill chuck or collet holder rated for the shank diameter. Ensure the machine spindle is fully stopped and locked before changing tooling. Solid carbide bits are brittle and should not be used in hand-held drill applications or in setups with excessive runout, as lateral loading can cause fracture. Coolant-through is not supported on this bit; use flood or mist coolant at the workpiece surface when drilling abrasion-resistant alloys.
