The HERTEL 74148685 is a screw machine length drill bit designed for precision drilling in hard and abrasive materials. Built from solid carbide with a bright uncoated finish, it measures 1/32 inch (0.0312 inch decimal) in diameter with an overall length of 1.125 inches and a flute length of 3/8 inch. The 135-degree split point reduces walking and allows for immediate bite without a center punch. The slow spiral, two-flute geometry paired with web thinning improves chip evacuation in deep or interrupted cuts. This bit is installed and used by machinists, tool and die technicians, and maintenance professionals working with precision drilling equipment.
This drill bit is suited for drilling cast iron, nickel alloys, stainless steel, titanium alloys, and tool steel. The screw machine length format provides added rigidity compared to jobber-length bits, making it a strong choice for CNC drilling operations, manual drill presses, and screw machine setups where stub-length stability is needed in tight workholding arrangements. Right-hand cutting direction is standard for conventional spindle rotation.
Designed as a screw machine length replacement drill bit for use in CNC machining centers, drill presses, and screw machines accepting a straight cylindrical shank in 1/32 inch diameter.
Installation and use of this bit should be performed by qualified machinists or tooling technicians familiar with carbide tooling requirements. Secure the straight cylindrical shank firmly in a compatible drill chuck or collet before operation, and verify spindle runout is within acceptable limits to avoid carbide fracture. Coolant through is not supported on this bit, so external cutting fluid application is recommended when drilling stainless steel, titanium alloy, or tool steel. Carbide is brittle - avoid impact loading, side pressure, or interrupted cuts at elevated feed rates without appropriate machine rigidity.
