The HERTEL 74147620 is a reduced shank cobalt drill bit designed for drilling into tough, high tensile strength materials where standard high-speed steel bits fall short. The bit measures 13/16 inch (0.8125 inch) in diameter with a 1/2 inch straight-cylindrical shank, allowing it to chuck into standard 1/2 inch drill chucks despite the larger cutting diameter. The 118 degree standard point angle provides a versatile, self-centering entry suitable for a wide range of metal drilling applications. An oxide straw finish helps reduce friction and provides a degree of corrosion resistance during use. Overall length is 6 inches with a 3 inch flute length, and the right-hand spiral flute geometry promotes efficient chip evacuation.
This bit is suited for machinists, maintenance technicians, pipefitters, and ironworkers who need to bore larger-diameter holes in structural steel, alloy steel, stainless steel, and other tough high tensile strength metals. The reduced shank design makes it practical for use in drill presses, magnetic drills, and portable electric drills equipped with a standard 1/2 inch chuck. It is well-suited for fabrication shops, mechanical rooms, and field service environments where access to a full-diameter shank setup is not available.
Designed for use in drill presses and portable drills with a 1/2 inch chuck capacity. Intended for drilling tough high tensile strength materials including alloy steels and stainless steel. No coolant system required.
This bit is installed and serviced by machinists, maintenance mechanics, or trained trade professionals familiar with metal drilling operations. Secure the workpiece firmly before drilling to prevent movement and bit breakage. Use appropriate cutting fluid for extended service life when drilling hard alloys, even though the bit is rated for dry use. Inspect the cutting edges before each use and replace the bit if chipping or excessive wear is present.
