The HERTEL 74132226 is a screw machine length drill bit designed for high-speed, short-reach drilling in metal fabrication, machining, and maintenance applications. Built from cobalt steel and finished with a TiAlN coating, this bit handles hard and abrasive materials where standard HSS tooling falls short. The 135-degree split point reduces walking and cutting force at entry, allowing drilling without a center punch in many setups. At 2-1/16 inches overall length, the screw machine format keeps the cutting edge close to the chuck, improving rigidity and accuracy in drill press and CNC applications. A web-thinned, parallel web construction reduces thrust requirements and improves chip evacuation through the spiral flute.
This drill bit suits production and job-shop environments where operators drill wire-gauge holes in steel, stainless steel, cast iron, and similar hard metals. The straight-cylindrical shank fits standard drill chucks and collets without adapters. Right-hand cutting direction is consistent with standard drill press, CNC machining center, and hand drill applications. Machinists, toolroom technicians, and maintenance mechanics are the primary users. The screw machine length format is particularly useful in tight-clearance drilling fixtures or when rigidity matters more than reach.
Designed as a wire-gauge Size 25 (0.1495 inch) replacement or production drill bit for use in standard drill presses, machining centers, and hand drills equipped with chucks or collets accepting a straight-cylindrical shank in the 0.1000 to 0.1500 inch decimal inch drill bit size range.
Secure the straight-cylindrical shank firmly in the chuck or collet before operation and verify runout is within acceptable limits for the application. Cutting speeds and feeds should be selected based on workpiece material and machine capability. Use appropriate cutting fluid or mist coolant when drilling steel or stainless steel to extend tool life. Always wear appropriate eye protection and ensure the workpiece is properly fixtured before beginning the cut.
