The HERTEL 74132010 is a screw machine length (stub length) drill bit designed for high-productivity hole-making in hard and abrasive materials. Built from cobalt high-speed steel and finished with a TiAlN coating, this bit handles elevated cutting temperatures that would degrade standard HSS tooling. The 135-degree split point geometry reduces thrust and self-centers on entry, minimizing the need for a center punch on flat stock. At 2.375 inches overall length, the shorter-than-standard body provides rigidity and reduces deflection in drill press, CNC turret, and screw machine applications. Wire size 3 corresponds to a decimal diameter of 0.2130 inches. Licensed machinists, tool-and-die technicians, and general metalworking shops are the primary users.
This bit is suited for production drilling in stainless steel, alloy steel, cast iron, titanium, and other hard ferrous materials where heat buildup shortens tool life. The stub length format makes it a standard choice for turret lathes, automatic screw machines, and short-reach drill press setups where a jobber-length bit would flex or chatter. The web-thinned, parallel-web configuration reduces cutting resistance at the chisel edge, which is especially beneficial in interrupted cuts and when drilling through hardened plate. This is a right-hand cutting tool intended for conventional right-hand spindle rotation.
Designed for use in drill presses, CNC turret machines, automatic screw machines, and hand-held power drills equipped with a standard straight-shank chuck accepting 0.2130-inch diameter tooling. Fits any setup accepting a straight cylindrical shank in this diameter range.
Installation and operation should be performed by qualified machinists or metalworking technicians following applicable shop safety procedures. Ensure the spindle is fully stopped and the machine is locked out before changing tooling. Secure the shank fully in the chuck or collet to the recommended grip depth to prevent pullout under load. Do not exceed the material manufacturer or machine manufacturer recommended feed and speed parameters for cobalt tooling in the workpiece material being drilled.
