The HERTEL 74131632 is a cobalt screw machine length drill bit designed for high-performance drilling in tough materials. Built from cobalt high-speed steel and coated with TiAlN (titanium aluminum nitride), it handles hard metals, stainless steel, and abrasive alloys where standard HSS bits wear quickly. The split point tip at 135 degrees reduces walking on entry and lowers thrust force, making it well-suited for production drilling and maintenance work. At 15/32 inches (0.4688 inches decimal) in diameter with a 3-5/8 inches overall length and a 2-1/8 inches flute length, this bit is sized for close-quarter drilling applications where a standard jobber-length bit would be too long.
Screw machine length drill bits are a common choice in machining shops, maintenance facilities, and fabrication environments where rigidity and accuracy matter more than reach. The shorter body reduces deflection during drilling, improving hole straightness in metal plate, structural steel, and similar workpieces. This bit is appropriate for use in drill presses, CNC machining centers, and hand-held industrial drills with compatible straight-cylindrical shank chucks. Machinists, millwrights, and industrial maintenance technicians are the primary users of this product type.
Designed for use in standard drill chucks accepting a straight-cylindrical shank in the 0.4500 to 0.5000 inches decimal diameter range, including drill presses, CNC machining centers, and industrial hand drills.
This bit is installed and serviced by machinists, millwrights, or industrial maintenance technicians. Secure the straight-cylindrical shank firmly in a compatible drill chuck before operation and verify chuck runout is within acceptable limits to protect both the bit and the workpiece. Always power down and lock out the machine before changing bits. Do not exceed the recommended speed and feed ranges for the workpiece material and bit diameter.
