The HERTEL 74130709 is a screw machine length drill bit designed for high-productivity drilling in metal fabrication, machining, and general industrial applications. Built from cobalt high-speed steel, this bit handles harder workpiece materials and elevated cutting temperatures that would degrade standard HSS tooling. The 135-degree split point geometry reduces thrust force on entry and self-centers without a center punch. At 2.125 inches overall length, the stub-length body provides added rigidity and reduced deflection in short-hole drilling operations. The straight cylindrical shank is compatible with standard drill chucks and quick-change systems. This bit is sold individually.
Screw machine length drill bits are the standard choice on drill presses, CNC machining centers, turret lathes, and screw machines where stub rigidity is preferred over jobber-length reach. The 74130709 drills a 0.1695 inch diameter hole, corresponding to wire gauge size 18. The regular spiral flute with web-thinned, parallel web configuration promotes efficient chip evacuation. This bit suits production environments drilling mild steel, alloy steel, stainless steel, cast iron, and similar ferrous materials where cobalt grade tooling is specified.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement and standard production drill bit for use in any drill press, CNC machining center, turret lathe, or hand-held drill with a chuck accepting a straight cylindrical shank of the appropriate diameter.
This bit is installed and serviced by machinists, tool-and-die technicians, and maintenance trades. Secure the shank fully in the chuck and verify runout before beginning a cut. Always power down and lock out the machine spindle before changing tooling. Do not exceed the recommended feed and speed parameters for the workpiece material and cobalt grade tooling to avoid premature edge wear.
