The HERTEL 74130501 is a screw machine length cobalt drill bit designed for high-performance drilling in tough materials. With a 21/32 inch (0.6562 inch decimal) diameter and a 135-degree split point, it starts on contact without walking, reducing the need for a center punch. The cobalt construction handles heat buildup that would degrade standard high-speed steel bits. At 4.5 inches overall length, the screw machine format provides added rigidity over jobber-length bits, making it well-suited for drill press and CNC applications where runout and deflection must be minimized. Right-hand cut, two-flute regular spiral geometry moves chips efficiently out of the hole.
This bit is intended for drilling stainless steel, tough alloys, and other work-hardening materials that demand a high-cobalt cutting edge. Typical applications include fabrication shops, maintenance and repair operations, and production environments where consistent hole quality in hard metals is required. The straight cylindrical shank accepts standard drill chucks on drill presses, lathes, and CNC machining centers without adapter hardware. Web-thinned construction reduces thrust load at the cutting edge, which is a measurable advantage when drilling thick stainless plate or high-strength alloy stock.
Designed for use in standard drill chucks accepting straight-shank bits in the 0.6000 inch and larger diameter range. Part of the HSCO135 series, suited for drill presses, lathes, and CNC machining centers used in fabrication and MRO applications on stainless steel and tough alloy workpieces.
Installation is performed by machinists, tool-and-die makers, and maintenance technicians. Secure the shank fully in the drill chuck and verify runout before cutting. Always power down and de-energize the machine before changing tooling. Use appropriate cutting fluid or coolant for stainless steel and high-alloy workpieces to extend tool life and maintain hole quality.
