The HERTEL 74130352 is a screw machine length drill bit engineered for high-performance drilling in tough materials. Built from cobalt high-speed steel (HSCO), it handles heat and wear better than standard HSS tooling, making it well-suited for stainless steel, cast iron, titanium alloys, and hardened materials. The 135-degree split point geometry reduces walking and minimizes the need for a center punch, allowing the bit to bite immediately on contact. At 3.125 inches overall length with a 1.8125-inch flute, this stub-length format provides extra rigidity compared to jobber-length bits, reducing deflection in short-hole drilling applications. Installed by machinists, maintenance technicians, and fabricators, it fits standard drill presses, CNC machines, and hand-held drilling equipment.
This drill bit is designed for screw machine and stub-length applications where rigidity and hole accuracy are priorities. The 0.375-inch diameter and straight cylindrical shank make it compatible with standard three-jaw chucks and collet holders. It is commonly used in production drilling, maintenance and repair operations, and fabrication environments where materials resist conventional HSS tooling. The regular spiral flute, two-flute configuration, and web-thinned parallel web support efficient chip evacuation during through-hole and blind-hole drilling in ferrous and non-ferrous metals.
Designed as a direct-fit replacement for 3/8-inch stub-length cobalt drill bits in standard three-jaw chucks, collet systems, and drill press spindles accepting straight-shank tooling in the 0.35 to 0.40 inch diameter range.
Installation and use should be performed by a qualified machinist or maintenance technician familiar with rotating cutting tool safety. Always power down and lock out the machine before securing or removing the bit from the chuck or collet. Confirm the shank is fully seated and the chuck is tightened before starting the spindle. Use appropriate cutting fluid for the workpiece material to extend tool life and maintain hole quality.
