The HERTEL 74130303 is a screw machine length drill bit designed for high-production drilling in metal fabrication, machining, and general industrial applications. Built from cobalt high-speed steel (HSCO), this bit handles harder materials and elevated cutting temperatures that would degrade standard HSS tooling. At 19/64 inches (0.2969 inches) in diameter, it features a 135-degree split point that reduces walking and cutting pressure at entry, a web-thinned parallel web for improved chip evacuation, and a straw finish indicating heat-treated cobalt construction. The straight cylindrical shank is compatible with standard drill chucks and collet holders across a wide range of drill presses, CNC machines, and hand-held power tools.
Screw machine length drill bits are shorter than jobber-length bits, providing greater rigidity and reduced deflection in tight-clearance setups, turret lathes, automatic screw machines, and drill press fixtures. The 19/64-inch diameter is commonly used for clearance holes, tapping prep, and close-tolerance through-holes in ferrous and non-ferrous metals including stainless steel, cast iron, titanium alloys, and hardened steels. This bit is suited to machinists, tool-and-die shops, and maintenance technicians who require consistent, repeatable hole quality in demanding materials.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement or direct-use cobalt drill bit for standard drill chucks and collet holders accepting a straight cylindrical shank in the 0.2500 to 0.3000 inches decimal inch size range.
Installation and use of this drill bit should be performed by qualified machinists or maintenance technicians familiar with machine tool operation. Ensure the drill press, lathe, or CNC spindle is fully powered down and locked out before changing tooling. Secure the straight shank firmly in the chuck or collet to the manufacturer-recommended engagement depth to prevent slippage under load. Use appropriate cutting fluid or coolant for the workpiece material to extend tool life, even though the bit does not require coolant-through delivery.
