The HERTEL 73041865 is a threaded shank cobalt drill bit designed for drilling into high-tensile strength metals. It carries a No. 16 wire gauge size, equivalent to 0.177 inches in decimal, and features a 135-degree split point for self-centering and reduced thrust on entry. The 1/4-28 threaded square shank provides a secure, repeatable seating in compatible quick-change chucks. Cobalt construction with an oxide coating improves heat resistance and edge retention when cutting through hard or abrasive materials. Overall length is 1.25 inches with a flute length of 0.5625 inches. Meets NAS 965 Type D specification. Right-hand cutting with a regular spiral flute and web-thinned, tapered web geometry for clean chip evacuation.
This bit is suited for use in aerospace, industrial maintenance, and fabrication applications where high-tensile strength metals such as stainless steel, hardened alloys, and titanium are encountered. The short overall length and threaded shank make it well suited for close-quarters drilling operations using quick-change tooling systems. It is a general-purpose cobalt grade bit appropriate for production drilling environments where tool life under heat and cutting pressure is a priority. Licensed machinists, millwrights, and maintenance technicians commonly specify this type of bit for repetitive precision hole work.
Designed for use with quick-change tooling systems that accept a 1/4-28 threaded square shank. Intended for drilling high-tensile strength metals in general-purpose industrial and maintenance applications.
Install and remove the bit only when the drill or machine spindle is fully stopped and locked out per applicable safety procedures. Ensure the 1/4-28 threaded shank is fully seated and torqued into the chuck before operation. Use appropriate cutting fluid or coolant for the workpiece material to extend tool life, noting this bit does not have through-coolant capability. Follow the machine manufacturer and shop safety guidelines for speed and feed rates when drilling hardened or high-tensile metals.
