The HERTEL 73041030 is a cobalt threaded shank drill bit engineered for drilling into high-tensile strength materials including stainless steel, hardened alloys, and other difficult-to-machine metals. It carries a No. 16 wire gauge size, equivalent to 0.1770 inches in decimal, with a 135-degree split point that reduces walking on entry and lowers the thrust required to start the hole. The oxide coating adds surface hardness and helps resist heat buildup during aggressive cutting. At 2.125 inches overall length with a 1.125-inch flute, this bit is compact and suited for tight-access drilling situations common in aerospace and structural fabrication work.
This drill bit is used in applications governed by NAS 965 specification, making it appropriate for aerospace maintenance, structural assembly, and precision fabrication environments. The right-hand spiral flute with regular helix and tapered web configuration provides consistent chip evacuation in ferrous and non-ferrous high-strength materials. The 1/4-28 threaded shank secures the bit positively in compatible threaded adapters and quick-change systems, which reduces slip under torque. Licensed HVAC, plumbing, and mechanical technicians also reach for cobalt bits when drilling through hardened steel brackets, hangers, and equipment enclosures in the field.
Designed for use in threaded shank drill adapters and quick-change systems accepting a 1/4-28 threaded connection. Suited for drilling high-tensile strength ferrous and non-ferrous metals per NAS 965 specification requirements.
Install this bit only into tooling designed to accept a 1/4-28 threaded shank. Ensure the shank is fully seated and the thread engagement is complete before applying power to the drill. Use appropriate cutting fluid or lubricant when drilling hardened or stainless alloys to extend tool life and maintain hole quality. Wear appropriate eye protection and secure the workpiece before drilling.
