The HERTEL 72846488 is a single-end roughing end mill designed for aggressive material removal in milling operations. Built from M42 cobalt high-speed steel and coated with Titanium Nitride (TiN), it delivers extended tool life under high-heat cutting conditions. The 3/4 inch diameter cutter features 4 flutes with a fine pitch geometry and right-hand cutting and flute direction. With a 3 inch length of cut and a 5-1/4 inch overall length, this tool is suited for deep-pocket and slotting work. It is centercutting, allowing plunge entry. Machinists and tool-and-die professionals are the primary users.
This roughing end mill is applied in production machining environments where rapid stock removal is the priority. The fine-pitch flute geometry reduces chatter and vibration during heavy cuts in ferrous and difficult-to-machine alloys. The TiN coating improves surface hardness and reduces friction at the cutting edge. It is suited for vertical machining centers, knee mills, and manual or CNC milling setups where a 3/4 inch straight shank is appropriate. The cobalt M42 substrate provides heat resistance beyond standard M2 HSS, making it a reliable choice for harder workpiece materials.
Designed as a direct-fit roughing end mill for milling machines and machining centers that accept a 3/4 inch straight shank, including collet chucks, end mill holders, and Weldon-style tool holders of the appropriate bore size.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist with the spindle fully stopped and the machine powered down or in a safe lockout state. Seat the shank fully into the tool holder and torque the set screw or collet nut to the tool holder specification before operation. Inspect the cutting edges for chips or damage before mounting. Follow applicable shop safety procedures and machine manufacturer guidelines for tool runout tolerances.
