The HERTEL 72551260 is a chucking reamer designed for precision hole finishing in metalworking and machining applications. Built from cobalt steel, this reamer handles harder workpiece materials and elevated cutting temperatures better than standard high-speed steel tooling. The straight flute geometry and bright, uncoated finish make it well suited for reaming softer metals and through-hole operations where chip evacuation is straightforward. At 0.1260 inches in diameter with a 3-1/2 inch overall length and a 7/8 inch flute length, this is a small-diameter tool sized for tight tolerance bores in precision components. It is classified as an over/under size reamer, meaning it is ground to a specific diameter outside the nominal standard to achieve a controlled fit.
This chucking reamer is used in drill press, lathe, or CNC machining center setups wherever a consistent, accurate bore finish is required. The straight-cylindrical shank seats directly into a drill chuck or collet holder without requiring a specialized toolholder. Right-hand cutting direction is the standard orientation for this type of tooling. Typical applications include finishing pilot holes in ferrous and non-ferrous parts, fixture components, and precision assemblies where a close-tolerance bore is required after drilling.
Designed as a standard chucking reamer for use in drill presses, lathes, and CNC machining centers equipped with a drill chuck or collet system sized to accept a straight-cylindrical shank in the corresponding diameter range.
Chucking reamers are installed by machinists or toolroom personnel. Always secure the shank fully in the chuck or collet and ensure the holder is properly tightened before operation. Power down and lock out the machine before changing or inspecting tooling. Use appropriate cutting fluid for the workpiece material and never run a reamer in reverse, as reverse rotation will dull the cutting edges.
