The HERTEL 72308547 is a wire-gauge chucking reamer sized to a No. 54 wire diameter, producing a finished bore of 0.0550 inches. Built from cobalt steel with a bright, uncoated finish, it delivers the heat and wear resistance needed for reaming harder ferrous and exotic alloy workpieces. The straight flute geometry and right-hand cutting direction are standard for general-purpose through-hole reaming on drill presses, lathes, and CNC machining centers. Four flutes provide a balance of chip clearance and surface finish quality. The straight-cylindrical shank seats directly in standard drill chucks or collet holders without adapters, making tool changes straightforward in production and job-shop environments.
This reamer is suited for precision hole finishing in metalworking applications where wire-gauge tolerances are required. With an overall length of 2.5 inches and a flute length of 0.5 inches, it is sized for shallow reaming passes in small-diameter through holes. Machinists, tool-and-die makers, and maintenance technicians working on small-bore components such as bushings, dowel pin holes, and instrument housings will find this size range common in their work. It is not designed as a dowel pin reamer and is not an over- or under-size variant.
Designed as an OEM-style chucking reamer for use in any machine tool setup accepting a straight-cylindrical shank of equivalent diameter, including drill presses, engine lathes, turret lathes, and CNC machining centers performing small-bore hole finishing operations.
Chucking reamers are installed and removed by qualified machinists or toolroom technicians. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before changing tooling. Secure the straight-cylindrical shank firmly in the chuck or collet to the tool-holder manufacturer's specified clamping torque range. Use appropriate cutting fluid for the workpiece material to extend tool life and maintain bore tolerance. Never use a reamer to remove more stock than recommended for the diameter class — pre-drill or bore to within a few thousandths of finished size before reaming.
