The HERTEL 72294036 is a high-speed steel (HSS) chucking reamer designed for precision hole finishing in machine shop and production environments. Built with a 0.2130-inch diameter (Wire Size No. 3) and a 6-flute spiral configuration, it delivers consistent, smooth bore surfaces in a single pass. The straight-cylindrical shank seats securely in standard drill press or lathe chucks. At 3.75 inches overall length with a 1.25-inch flute length, it is suited for moderate-depth finishing cuts in ferrous and non-ferrous materials. Machinists and tool-and-die professionals rely on this style of reamer for tight-tolerance hole sizing where drilled holes require final finishing to specification.
This chucking reamer is used in production machining, maintenance shops, and tool rooms for finishing pre-drilled or bored holes to precise diameter. The right-hand spiral flute geometry pulls chips up and out of the hole, reducing surface finish issues in blind and through-hole applications. It is a standard choice when holes must meet close tolerance fits for pins, bearings, or dowels in metal fabrication and mechanical assembly work.
Designed as a standard chucking reamer for use in drill presses, lathes, and milling machines equipped with chucks or collet systems accepting a straight-cylindrical shank in the 0.2130-inch diameter range.
A licensed machinist or experienced tool operator should secure the straight-cylindrical shank firmly in a properly sized chuck or collet before operation. Ensure the workpiece is rigidly fixtured and that the pre-drilled hole is sized appropriately undersize to allow for reaming stock removal. Use recommended cutting fluid for the workpiece material to extend tool life and maintain surface finish quality. Never force a reamer through an undersized hole or run it in reverse, as this will damage the cutting edges.
