The HERTEL 72292048 is a straight-flute chucking reamer designed for precision hole finishing in metalworking applications. Built from high-speed steel (HSS) with a bright, uncoated finish, this reamer is sized to Letter D (0.2460 inches decimal equivalent) and delivers a right-hand cutting action through 6 evenly spaced straight flutes. The overall length is 4 inches with a 1-1/2 inch flute length, and the straight-cylindrical shank allows direct mounting in standard drill chucks or collet holders on lathes, drill presses, and CNC machines. Machinists and tool-and-die workers use this reamer to bring drilled or bored holes to a precise, smooth finish with tight dimensional tolerances.
This reamer is suited for general-purpose reaming in ferrous and non-ferrous metals in production and job-shop environments. The straight-cylindrical shank makes it compatible with a wide range of standard workholding systems. It is not configured as a dowel pin reamer or an over/under size reamer, making it appropriate for standard on-size finishing passes. The 6-flute geometry distributes cutting load evenly, producing consistent surface finish quality in through-holes and blind holes alike where chip clearance is manageable.
Designed as an OEM-style chucking reamer for use in drill presses, lathes, turret lathes, and CNC machining centers equipped with standard straight-shank toolholders accepting the shank diameter of this tool.
Chucking reamers should be installed by a qualified machinist using a properly sized collet, drill chuck, or floating reamer holder to minimize runout. The workpiece and machine spindle must be secured and all tooling torqued to the machine manufacturer's specifications before operation. Use appropriate cutting fluid for the material being reamed to extend tool life and achieve the desired surface finish. Inspect the reamer edges for damage before each use and remove from service if chipping or wear is observed.
