The HERTEL 72034952 is a straight-flute chucking reamer designed for precision hole finishing in machining applications. Built from high-speed steel (HSS) with a bright, uncoated finish, this reamer delivers consistent bore sizing at 0.4950 inches diameter. The straight-cylindrical shank seats securely in a drill chuck or collet holder, and the 6-flute geometry provides smooth cutting action with right-hand rotation. At 8 inches overall length with a 2-inch flute length, it is suited for through-holes and moderate-depth blind bores in a variety of workpiece materials. Machinists and tool-and-die technicians are the primary users of this tool.
This reamer is used in machine shop environments for reaming drilled or bored holes to a close tolerance finish. It is appropriate for manual machining on drill presses and lathes as well as CNC operations where a straight-shank tool holder is used. The 0.4950-inch diameter places it in the 0.4000 to 0.4999-inch decimal inch range, making it a standard selection for finishing holes that require tight dimensional control. It is not configured as a dowel pin reamer or an over/under size reamer, so it produces a standard nominal diameter finish.
Designed as a standard straight-shank chucking reamer for use in drill presses, lathes, and CNC machining centers equipped with a chuck or collet capable of accepting a straight-cylindrical shank.
This tool is installed and operated by machinists familiar with cutting tool setup and speeds-and-feeds selection. Secure the shank fully in the chuck or collet before operation and verify runout with a dial indicator when tolerance is critical. Always reduce spindle speed and use appropriate cutting fluid compared to the preceding drilling operation to achieve proper finish and tool life. Never force a reamer through an undersized hole — the pre-drilled or bored hole should be within the recommended stock-removal allowance for the reamer diameter.
