The HERTEL 72009657 is a high-speed steel (HSS) chucking reamer designed to produce precision-finished holes in metal workpieces. It measures 0.0965 inches in diameter with a 3-1/2 inch overall length and a 7/8 inch straight flute length. The straight-cylindrical shank allows secure clamping in standard drill chucks or collet systems on manual mills, drill presses, and CNC machines. With 4 flutes in a right-hand cutting direction and a bright uncoated finish, this reamer delivers consistent bore sizing and smooth surface finishes in through-hole and blind-hole applications on ferrous and non-ferrous materials. Machinists and tool-room technicians are the primary users of this style of reamer.
This reamer is suited for light-stock removal finishing operations where hole diameter tolerance and surface finish are critical. The 0.0965 inch diameter falls within the small-bore range, making it appropriate for instrument components, precision assemblies, and hydraulic or pneumatic valve bodies. It is used in job shops, maintenance facilities, and production environments where hand reamers lack the rigidity needed for repeatable results. The straight flute geometry is well-suited for through-hole reaming in softer materials and for applications where chatter control is needed at low depths of cut.
Designed as a standard chucking reamer for use in drill presses, manual mills, and CNC machining centers equipped with drill chucks or straight-shank collet systems accepting a 0.0965 inch diameter tool.
This reamer is installed and operated by machinists familiar with precision hole-finishing procedures. Secure the straight-cylindrical shank firmly in a drill chuck or collet before operation to prevent runout. Always pre-drill the hole to the appropriate undersize before reaming, and use a suitable cutting fluid for the workpiece material to extend tool life and improve finish quality. Do not use this reamer as a drill or attempt to remove excess stock in a single pass.
