The HERTEL 66691965 is a screw machine length drill bit designed for high-production drilling in metal fabrication, machining, and general industrial applications. Built from heavy-duty cobalt steel with a titanium nitride (TiN) coating, it delivers extended tool life in abrasive and hard materials. The 135-degree split point reduces walking and allows drilling without a center punch on most surfaces. At 2.125 inches overall length, the stub-length body provides added rigidity and reduced deflection compared to jobber-length bits. This bit is sized to wire gauge No. 20, equivalent to 0.1610 inches in diameter.
This drill bit is suited for machinists, tool-and-die technicians, and maintenance professionals working on drill presses, CNC machines, lathes, or hand-held power drills. The short overall length makes it well-matched for tight-clearance drilling operations and applications requiring maximum rigidity. The right-hand spiral flute and straight-cylindrical shank allow direct chuck mounting without adapters. Typical materials drilled include carbon steel, alloy steel, stainless steel, and cast iron where the cobalt composition and TiN coating extend cutting life beyond standard high-speed steel tooling.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement or direct-use screw machine length drill bit for standard three-jaw chucks and collet systems accepting a 0.1610-inch straight-cylindrical shank.
Installation and use of this drill bit should be performed by qualified machinists or maintenance technicians familiar with rotating cutting tools. Ensure the drill press, lathe, or power tool is fully powered down and secured before changing tooling. Confirm chuck or collet is properly tightened to the rated shank diameter before operation. Always wear appropriate eye protection and follow applicable shop safety standards when operating drill bits in metal.
