The HERTEL 66691353 is a screw machine length drill bit designed for high-speed drilling in tough materials. Built from heavy-duty cobalt with a titanium nitride (TiN) coating, this bit delivers extended tool life and heat resistance under demanding conditions. The 135-degree split point reduces walking and requires less feed force to start the cut, making it well suited for production drilling and repetitive work. At 2-11/16 inches overall length with a 1-1/2-inch flute length, this short-series geometry provides rigidity and minimizes deflection in turret lathes, CNC machining centers, and drill presses. The straight-cylindrical shank measures 0.2812 inches in diameter.
This drill bit is used in metal fabrication, maintenance and repair shops, and production machining environments where a rigid, short-length bit is required to control runout and improve hole accuracy. The web-thinned, parallel-web configuration reduces thrust load and improves chip evacuation during drilling. Typical applications include drilling ferrous and non-ferrous metals, stainless steel, and hardened alloys where standard HSS tooling falls short. A licensed machinist or tool and die technician would typically specify this bit for close-tolerance work in screw machine setups or CNC turret applications.
Designed as a heavy-duty screw machine length replacement drill bit for use in standard straight-shank drill chucks, CNC turret lathes, and drill press applications requiring a 9/32-inch diameter cutting tool within the 0.2500 to 0.3000 inch drill bit size range.
Install in a properly sized drill chuck or collet and confirm shank is fully seated before operation. Ensure the machine spindle is stopped and locked out before changing tooling. Use appropriate cutting fluid or coolant where recommended by the machining operation, noting this bit does not include through-coolant capability. Inspect the cutting edges and TiN coating for wear regularly in high-cycle production use.
