The HERTEL 66691213 is a screw machine length drill bit designed for high-speed drilling in metal and other hard materials. Built from cobalt steel with a titanium nitride (TiN) coating, this bit handles heat and wear better than standard HSS tooling. The 135-degree split point reduces walking on entry and requires less feed pressure at the start of a cut. At 1.625 inches overall length, the screw machine format provides added rigidity compared to jobber-length bits, making it well suited for drill press and CNC turret work where stub length is preferred. Licensed machinists, tool-and-die technicians, and HVAC fabricators use this bit for precision hole-making in sheet metal, light structural steel, and stainless applications.
This bit is sized at 0.0625 inches (1/16 inch) diameter with a matching 0.0625-inch straight cylindrical shank. The right-hand spiral flute geometry with web thinning and a parallel web configuration clears chips efficiently in blind and through holes. It is rated as heavy duty grade, making it appropriate for production drilling environments where bit life and dimensional accuracy matter. Typical applications include sheet metal fabrication, HVAC duct and bracket work, electrical panel manufacturing, and general maintenance machining where short, rigid tooling improves hole quality.
Designed as a direct-fit replacement for 1/16-inch diameter screw machine length drill bits used in standard three-jaw drill chucks and collet holders accepting a 0.0625-inch straight cylindrical shank.
This bit is installed and removed by a licensed machinist or qualified technician using a standard drill chuck or collet rated for the shank diameter. Always power down and lock out the drilling machine before changing tooling. Use appropriate cutting fluid for the material being drilled to extend bit life and maintain hole tolerances. Inspect the cutting edges before each use and replace bits that show chipping, heat discoloration, or edge rollover.
