The HERTEL 62889274 is a single-end roughing end mill designed for aggressive material removal in milling operations. Built from M42 cobalt high-speed steel and finished with a Titanium Nitride (TiN) coating, it handles tough ferrous and non-ferrous materials where standard HSS tooling wears prematurely. The cutter measures 1 inch in diameter with a 3/4-inch shank, a 1.5-inch length of cut, and a 3.75-inch overall length. Its 5-flute fine-pitch geometry produces a semi-finished surface while removing stock rapidly, making it a practical choice for roughing passes before a finish end mill is run. Right-hand cutting and right-hand spiral flute direction are standard. Installed by machinists and tool-and-die professionals on manual mills and CNC machining centers.
This roughing end mill suits horizontal and vertical milling setups in job shops, maintenance machining environments, and production floors. The 1-inch diameter and 3/4-inch shank fit standard ER collets, side-lock holders, and Weldon-style tool holders commonly found on knee mills and VMCs. The TiN coating extends tool life at elevated cutting speeds compared to uncoated cobalt, making it well suited for steel, alloy steel, cast iron, and similar materials where heat generation is a concern during roughing passes. The non-centercutting design means plunge milling is not recommended; use a drilled or bored entry point or ramp into the cut.

Installation is performed by a qualified machinist or tooling technician. Ensure the machine spindle is fully stopped and locked out before inserting or removing the tool from its holder. Confirm the holder bore matches the 3/4-inch shank diameter and that the tool is seated to the correct gage length before tightening. Because this is a non-centercutting end mill, do not attempt straight plunge cuts; always ramp or use a pre-machined entry point to prevent tool damage.
