The HERTEL 62852603 is a single-end roughing end mill designed for aggressive material removal in milling operations. Built from M42 cobalt high-speed steel with a TiAlN coating, it handles tough ferrous and exotic alloy workpieces where standard HSS tooling falls short. The 1/4 inch diameter cutting head features 3 spiral flutes in a coarse pitch configuration, which breaks chips into smaller segments to reduce heat buildup and cutting forces. The shank diameter is 3/8 inch, and the overall length is 2-11/16 inches, with a length of cut of 7/8 inch. Machinists and tool-room operators use this end mill for roughing passes before finishing with a standard end mill.
This roughing end mill suits vertical and horizontal milling machines, CNC machining centers, and manual knee mills running ferrous metals, stainless steels, and high-temperature alloys. The coarse pitch geometry makes it effective for hogging stock quickly in situations where surface finish is secondary to material removal rate. Right-hand cut and right-hand flute direction are standard for conventional and climb milling setups. The non-centercutting design means it is intended for side milling, peripheral cuts, and slot entry from an existing hole rather than direct plunge cuts.
Designed as a standard-shank roughing end mill compatible with 3/8 inch collets, end mill holders, and milling chucks used on CNC and manual milling machines.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist or tool-room technician. Ensure the machine spindle is fully stopped and the power is locked out before changing tooling. Seat the 3/8 inch shank securely in a matched collet or end mill holder and torque the drawbar or set screws per the machine manufacturer specification. Verify runout with a dial indicator before beginning a cut, as excessive runout accelerates tool wear and reduces surface quality.
