The HERTEL 62848684 is a single-end roughing end mill designed for aggressive material removal in milling operations. Built from M42 cobalt high-speed steel with a TiCN coating, it delivers extended tool life in ferrous and hard materials. The 7/8-inch diameter cutter features 5 spiral flutes in a fine-pitch configuration with right-hand cutting and right-hand flute direction. It is center-cutting, allowing plunge entry into workpieces. Machinists and tool-and-die professionals install this tool in CNC machining centers and manual mills for roughing passes where stock removal rate and edge durability are the primary requirements.
This end mill is suited for roughing applications in job shops, manufacturing facilities, and maintenance machining environments. The 7/8-inch length of cut and 3.125-inch overall length make it appropriate for moderate-depth pocketing and profiling work. The TiCN coating reduces friction and improves wear resistance compared to uncoated cobalt tooling, making it a practical choice when machining alloy steels, tool steels, and similar materials where heat generation is a concern.
Designed as a standard-shank roughing end mill compatible with 7/8-inch end mill holders, collet chucks, and Weldon-style holders used on vertical machining centers and manual knee mills.
Installation is performed by qualified machinists. Power down and lock out the spindle before mounting or removing the tool. Seat the shank fully in the holder and torque the set screw or collet nut to the holder manufacturer's specification. Inspect the cutting edges and coating for chips or damage before each use, and confirm runout with a dial indicator when precision is required.
