The HERTEL 61699682 is a screw machine length drill bit designed for high-volume drilling applications where a shorter, more rigid tool is preferred over a jobber-length bit. Ground from high-speed steel and finished with an oxide coating for basic lubricity and corrosion resistance, this bit cuts a 0.1200-inch diameter hole using a standard 118-degree point angle. The straight cylindrical shank seats directly in standard drill chucks or quick-change holders. At 1-7/8 inches overall length with a 7/8-inch flute, this stub-length format reduces deflection and improves hole accuracy in production and bench drilling setups. Machinists, tool-and-die workers, and general maintenance trades are the primary users.
This bit is suited for general-purpose drilling in metal, plastic, and similar materials where a wire gauge size 31 hole is required. The shorter overall length makes it a practical choice for drill press work, CNC turret applications, and hand drilling in tight clearance areas. The 2-flute spiral configuration provides efficient chip evacuation during through-hole drilling. The oxide finish reduces surface friction and helps resist minor rust during storage. This is a single-piece package with a minimum order quantity of 12 units.
Designed as a general-purpose screw machine length drill bit in wire gauge size 31, compatible with standard drill chucks and quick-change systems accepting a straight cylindrical shank. Meets ANSI specification for this drill diameter and length class.
Secure the shank firmly in a properly sized drill chuck before use and verify the workpiece is clamped or fixtured to prevent rotation. Use appropriate cutting fluid or lubricant for metal drilling to extend tool life and improve hole finish. Inspect the cutting edges for wear or chipping before each use; a dull bit increases thrust force and can cause workpiece damage or breakage. Disposal of worn HSS tooling should follow applicable shop waste guidelines.
